Dreher-LeBoeuf Murder Case Lecture

James LeBoeuf was murdered on Lake Palourde outside Morgan City, LA.  In July 1927, James Beadle, Dr. Thomas Dreher, and Ada LeBoeuf (victim’s wife) were tried and found guilty.  Francine Middleton, a retired Ellender Memorial Library staffer, will present her research on the Dreher-LeBoeuf murder case and how newspaper coverage influenced the atmosphere surrounding the trial and quite possibly the outcome.  Showcasing how libraries are still essential for historical research, Middleton relied on local, unindexed newspapers and magazines for her study.

This is how wars are fought now: by children, hopped-up on drugs and wielding AK-47s. Children have become soldiers of choice. In the more than fifty conflicts going on worldwide, it is estimated that there are some 300,000 child soldiers. Ishmael Beah used to be one of them.
